After speaking on serious matters (Federer supports blood testing), the Swiss maestro lightened the mood of the press room when asked about his thoughts on Rafael Nadal’s return last week. The Spaniard was sidelined with knee injury since July 2012 after losing to Lukas Rosol in the second round of Wimbledon. The severity of the injury, disclosed afterward, forced him to withdraw from major tournaments, such as the Olympics, US Open, World Tour Finals, and most recently, the Australian Open.
Nadal’s comeback was at Vina del Mar in Chile, where he lost in the singles final to Horacio Zeballos 6-7 (2) 7-6 (6) 6-4, and doubles final (partnering with Juan Monaco), 6-2 6-4 to Lorenzi/Starace. His return is nonetheless good for the sport and competition at the top of the men’s rankings.
Federer addressed the press on Rafa’s return, its impact on the sport and a light humor in wishing he (Rafa) returned right handed.
