US Open 2011: The Open, final slam of the year

Before anything, this is for the maestro. Roger, if you are reading this, visiting this site, or someone who can relay this to Roger directly is reading this, just tell him one thing. Please Roger, win this US Open for your 17th grand slam. It’s like an overdue library book.

Now, onto the final slam of the year. The draw was released earlier today and with no offense, Roger was given a tough quarter, while Rafa Nadal has a much easier path to go deep into a slam, once again. It’s almost like the story which broke few days ago about US Open draws being rigged.

Roger may actually have a laugh at it. Against a routine draw with #1 vs #4 and #2 vs #3 potential match-ups in the semifinals, Roger is in the top half of the draw, paired with #1 seed Novak Djokovic. Rafa is seeded second, and is paired with fourth seeded Andy Murray, the leading title threats of the bottom half of the draw.

Roger’s quarter appears toughest of the four. He will play Santiago Geraldo in the first round, followed by these potential match-ups: Thomaz Belluci in round 2, Bernard Tomic, Ryan Harrison, or Marin Cilic in round 3, Viktor Troicki in round 4, Mardy Fish or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals, Novak Djokovic in the semifinal, and Rafa Nadal or Andy Murray in the final.
