Coming off a disappointing weekend in Davis Cup for the home Swiss team, some comments made by Roger Federer were lost in translation. The Swiss maestro was reported as stating that his doubles partner Stan Wawrinka played “bad.” His French translation into English was misconstrued and left out the word “not” before “bad” and Federer was determined to set the record straight.
“Yeah I had to weather the press. The things I said were taken the wrong way about Stan. I would never say something like that or blame him. I telephoned Stan just to make sure there was no misunderstanding.”
Federer went straight to the tournament site upon arriving in Rotterdam for press interviews. After that he signed autographs, had an open practice session on Centre Court with Del Potro, and then signed more autographs.
The Swiss maestro is playing in Rotterdam for the first time since 2005, when he won the title. He faces Nicolas Mahut Wednesday evening. Watch full coverage this week of the 39th ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament on FF07tv.
