Covering the odd days at this year’s Australian Open, or so far at least (hoping for superstition for slam #17), Roger defeated Tommy Robredo 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-2 to make it to his record tying, 27th consecutive grand slam quarterfinal. The semifinal streak ended at 23 last May at the French Open, but this quarterfinal streak in grand slams is alive since who knows when (I think 2004).
It was not a pretty match but it was a good workout for Roger as he was allowed to keep pressing forward without much worry that he would fall behind in the match. Now onto the night match where Andy Roddick takes on Swiss #2, Stan Wawrinka. The winner plays Roger in the quarterfinals.
