Roger Federer breezed past American Sam Querrey Thursday in the second round at Wimbledon. The 7-time champion thrilled Centre Court, with his play, for the most part, a highlight reel (see tweener lob video below). The Swiss maestro earned a decisive break at 4-all in the opening set, and from there, raced away with the match.
In 1 hour 26 minutes, the 33-year-old Swiss hit 32 winners to just 10 unforced errors across three sets, including a strong showing at net, where he won 19 of 22 points. Midway in the match, Federer struck the 2,500th winner of his career at Wimbledon, already far ahead of Pete Sampras with 2,040 on the all time list.

Untroubled to the finish line, Federer defeated Querrey 6-4 6-2 6-2, his 75th career win at Wimbledon, to advance to Saturday’s third round. He will face the big serving Australian, Sam Groth. Afterward, the Swiss reflected on his quick victory.
“Today was definitely a good day,” said Federer. “I sort of returned well. I definitely think I can serve a little bit better. I didn’t check my match stats, but I feel like things are definitely good out there. I had a good 10 minutes at the end of the first set. I think that was the key moment to go from 4-all to 6-4, 2-0. That was the moment that I took control of the match really.”
“Querrey can definitely be dangerous. He’s got a big game, especially on the grass. He was going for his shots today. It was important today to move well and be clear in the important moments. I felt like I was. It was a good match.”
