The 2015 Wimbledon draw was released Friday morning in London, shortly before Roger Federer took fans on a brief walking tour of the grounds via Periscope (watch replay here). The Swiss maestro, 7-time champion, is seeded second, and leads the bottom half of the draw. Drawn into his half is third seed Andy Murray, sixth seed Tomas Berdych, eighth seed David Ferrer, and tenth seed Rafael Nadal.
Federer begins his quest for an 8th Wimbledon crown and 18th grand slam against Damir Dzumhur, whom he faced for the first time less than a month ago at Roland Garros. He could face either Sam Querrey or qualifier Igor Sijsling in the second round. His first projected seed is in the third round against young American Jack Sock. The two met earlier this season in Indian Wells, where the Swiss prevailed in straight sets.
Federer’s round of 16 opponent could be either fifteenth seed Feliciano Lopez, quite the comfortable grass court player, or twentieth seed Roberto Bautista Agut. A stern test awaits in the quarterfinals, as the Swiss is likely to face sixth seed Tomas Berdych, who upset him in the same round five years ago. Semifinals two weeks from the draw ceremony, by seeding, would feature the 7-time champion taking on the 2013 champion, Andy Murray. Eighth seed David Ferrer and tenth seed Rafael Nadal are also potential semifinal opponents.
Leading the top half of the draw are defending champion Novak Djokovic, fourth seed and recent Roland Garros champion Stan Wawrinka, fifth seed Kei Nishikori, and returning from injury, seventh seed Milos Raonic. Play begins Monday, June 29. Federer is expected to play his first round match on Tuesday.
