The 2016 Miami Open draw ceremony was held Monday in Key Biscayne, Florida. Roger Federer has recovered ahead of schedule from his first ever longtime injury layoff and is entered to play. The Swiss maestro is seeded third and receives a first round bye. Federer’s second round match will be in Friday’s day session, and it could be a showdown with Juan Martin Del Potro. The Argentine plays his first round match Wednesday night.
Drawn into the top half, the 2005 and 2006 Miami Open champion’s path to the final likely goes through Del Potro in the second round, Fernando Verdasco or Jeremy Chardy in the third round, David Goffin in the fourth round, David Ferrer in the quarterfinals, before a showdown with Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Second seed Andy Murray, fourth seed Stan Wawrinka, fifth seed Rafael Nadal, and sixth seed Kei Nishikori lead the bottom half of the draw.
