Federer withdraws from Rogers Cup

In an unsurprising move, Roger Federer has withdrawn from the Rogers Cup (Toronto masters) next week. After defeating Juan Martin Del Potro in a historic, marathon match, the Swiss maestro is pressed for time between the gold medal final, and traveling to Toronto for his opening match early next week.

His official statement:

“I am very disappointed that I have to withdraw from Toronto as I love the city and the Canadian fans are amazing. I have always enjoyed playing there but after a long stretch of tournaments, I will need some time to recover,” said Federer. “I look forward to coming back to Canada next year.”
