Short Interview: Steve Ullrich

Steve Ullrich is a man who needs little introduction. He is long standing chair umpire in professional tennis, and recently took time to answer a few questions for FedererFan07.

How long have you umpired? Where did you begin?

(I) have been umpiring on court for 40 years. Started in Indianapolis at the men’s US clay courts.

Favorite tournament or few favorite tournaments?

Favorite tournaments are Wimbledon, Indian Wells, ATP finals at O2 arena in London. Enjoyed tournaments in Hawaii, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Describe one of your best experiences, perhaps one of the greatest matches you’ve umpired.

(I) enjoyed the US Open finals…worked 5 men’s, one women’s, one men’s doubles. Also enjoyed first final ever worked at Amelia Island with Graf and Sabatini.
