Jeremy Lin has created headlines and is the new phenom of the NBA. The New York Knicks’ point guard has captivated millions of fans worldwide, and Roger Federer has taken notice. Lin has gained instant popularity for his play that has lifted the Knicks as of late, with nicknames such as “Linsanity” and “Linsational.” The Swiss maestro is a big basketball fan. He has attended several games in the past, including sitting court side with Pete Sampras at a Lakers game last year just before Indian Wells.
On a conference call to promote the upcoming BNP Paribas Showdown, an exhibition on March 5, Federer said he’s “heard a bit about” Lin.
Federer spoke highly of Lin, saying it’s quite an “incredible story, actually, and I hope he can come to the exhibition.” He calls the sudden stardom of Lin an example of “why, I think, we all follow sports—because of great stories like this,” when “all of a sudden, someone breaks through that you didn’t know or didn’t expect.”
Federer is preparing for next week’s ATP 500 event in Dubai, starting February 27. See RF Activity for more.
