2018 Paris Masters Draw – The tennis season’s final ATP Masters 1000 tournament begins this week in Paris. Roger Federer, fresh off winning his ninth Swiss Indoors title in Basel, is participating in the event for the first time since 2015 (did not play in 2016 due to injury). The Swiss maestro is seeded third and is in the bottom half of the draw. The 2011 Paris Masters champion receives a first round bye and will face either Milos Raonic or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the second round on Wednesday. Facing Tsonga would be a rematch of the 2011 Paris Masters final. He could face thirteenth seed Fabio Fognini in the third round, and either seventh seed Kevin Anderson or tenth seed Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals. A potential semifinal match-up would put the 37-year-old Swiss up against second seed Novak Djokovic, fifth seed Marin Cilic, ninth seed Grigor Dimitrov, or fourteenth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Leading the top half of the draw and possible opponents in the final are top seed Rafael Nadal, fourth seed Alexander Zverev, sixth seed Dominic Thiem, and eighth seed John Isner. Federer is seeking his 100th career title this week in Paris. He has already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals in London, where the world’s top eight players face off in a round robin format for three matches before the semifinal and final stages. Between Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer who are currently ranked #1-3, the Swiss has had the most points to defend this fall, with the least opportunity to add points to his ranking. Djokovic, having not played the second half of 2017, has the most points to gain, and if he reaches further than Nadal in Paris, he will takeover the world #1 ranking. Nadal reached the quarterfinals of the event in 2017, and pulled out from the ATP Finals due to injury, after losing his first round robin match. Therefore like Djokovic, the Spaniard has no points to defend in London. Federer must defend a 3-0 round robin record and semifinal points in London, but has an opportunity to add points this week in Paris. Main draw play of the Paris Masters begins Monday, October 29, with the final on Sunday, November 4. View the full draw below.
