Roger Federer got off to a slow start, combined with an aggressive start from his opponent Simone Bolelli. The Wednesday day session match on Rod Laver Arena saw the Italian jump out to take the first set against the Swiss maestro, playing inspired tennis. However the 33-year-old Swiss found a way to maneuver through, tilting the match in his favor midway in the second set. Federer contained the length of the match to 2 hours 9 minutes across four sets, prevailing 3-6 6-3 6-2 6-2 over Bolelli, to advance to the third round. He will face either Jeremy Chardy or Andreas Seppi on Friday in Melbourne.
