2015 Australian Open Draw

The 2015 Australian Open draw ceremony took place Friday morning in Melbourne, Australia. Roger Federer is seeded second and was handed a tough path if he is to win his 18th grand slam in about two weeks. The Swiss maestro will face Yen-Hsun Lu in the first round. Lu is ranked #46 and reached the Chennai quarterfinals last week. Jeremy Chardy could be the first seeded opponent in the third round. The Frenchman was a difficult opponent in 2014, taking the 33-year-old Swiss to three sets in both Brisbane and Paris, and pulling off a third set tiebreak win in Rome.

A fourth round match against Tommy Robredo is a tricky one as well. The Spaniard shocked Federer in the fourth round of the 2013 US Open, although the Swiss easily won their most recent meeting at Wimbledon in straight sets and leads with a 11-1 head-to-head record. Well into the second week, Federer is projected to face either Andy Murray or Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals. Should he progress, nemesis Rafael Nadal awaits in the semifinals. By seeding, a final would feature Novak Djokovic, defending champion Stan Wawrinka, or Kei Nishikori, who lead the top half of the draw.
