Roger Federer Takes Monte Carlo Wild Card

In quite the surprise Tuesday, Roger Federer took a wild card into next week’s Monte Carlo Rolex Masters. The 32 year old Swiss will make his first appearance at the season’s first clay court masters tournament since 2011. It is his 11th overall showing, where he has a 23-10 record. The Swiss maestro has won seven of the nine masters 1000 events, and will be looking to gain points, as he has none to defend from 2013.

Coming off Davis Cup victory with Stan Wawrinka, Federer is feeling fit enough to play on clay earlier than planned. Monte Carlo was originally not on his 2014 schedule.
