Wimbledon asks Federer to change shoes

Even Roger Federer can’t get away with a bit of extra orange in his outfit. Wimbledon has asked Roger Federer to change his current grass court tennis shoes (see Nike outfit here) for his second round match Wednesday afternoon. Despite being the most illustrious member today, the All England Club is making no exceptions. The strict rules are essentially all apparel and gear from head to toe must be almost totally white.

The Swiss maestro’s Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour’s are predominantly white on the top, with full orange sole on bottom. An All England Club spokesman declined to comment, but it is understood that there will be no fine involved. It is simply a request to Roger Federer to change his shoes which will adhere to Wimbledon’s regulations. Serena Williams also has sported custom shoes, and is also believed to have been similarly told to change to something more conventional.
