Wimbledon 2011: Draw, Schedules, Storylines

The draw ceremony was held earlier today and after some big surprises (Isner-Mahut first round match after last year’s longest match in tennis history), we are ready to get underway at the All England Club. The gentlemen’s singles draw has the top four seeds in their respective quarters. The top half is headed by Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, bottom half by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

Federer first. His draw is decently favorable. He will face Mikhail Kukushkin in the first round. He could face a tricky opponent in David Nalbandian in the third round, Youzhny or Almagro in the fourth round, and either Ferrer, Tsonga, or Dolgopolov in the quarterfinals, according to seeding. On a side-note, Grigor Dimitrov (nicknamed “Baby Fed” – possibly a centerpiece of thenextfederer, my next project) is in this section of the draw as well.

Quarterfinal match-ups (according to seeding): Nadal-Berdych, Murray-Roddick, Federer-Ferrer, Djokovic-Soderling.
Semifinal match-ups (according to seeding): Nadal-Murray, Federer-Djokovic

Schedules will be released Sunday, but the start of play on Monday may be postponed due to London weather we’ve gotten to know well over many years.
